Re: Lost in the Maryland Campaign

Stephen Rikard was born in 1842 in Monroe County, AL. The name is more commonly spelled Rikard locally. His parents were Jacob Rikard and Elizabeth Snell. Jacob Rikard operated a grist mill on Flat Creek north of present day Beatrice. The community where his home stood was called Buena Vista. The grist mill was located in a community known for a brief time as Corduroy. The grist mill stands today and is operated by the Monroe County Heritage Museum. It produces cornmeal and course ground grits and serves as a gift shop for the county park located on site.
Stephen Rikard died July 10, 1864 from wounds received at Monocacy, MD. He is buried at Mt. Olivet cemetery located on South Market St. in Frederick, MD.
