That may be because we both used the list of regimental field and staff officers compiled by the U.S. War Department. It's not 100% accurate, but a far sight better than anything else around.

People seem to assume that staff officers served with one command only during the war. In reality an officer having staff responsibilities could have service files with several regiments, in addition to the staff file that people rarely ask about. They check the appropriate regimental file, but miss the staff service service file and files for regiments from other states.

In the case of Robert G. Holloway, no records in the 30th Alabama files show him on duty with that command. That's why he's not on the list compiled by War Department clerks, and doesn't have a service file index record with the 30th Alabama Regt. However, an assignment card in his staff file references service with the 30th Alabama Regt.

I need to add him to my regimental profile for the 30th Alabama Regt.
