William Johnson (possibly middle initial "M")

I am trying to find out what happened to all the siblings of my great grandfather, Joseph Abner Johnson. His youngest brother was William M. Johnson, born in Jefferson Co., Alabama in 1841. They moved to Pontotoc Co., Mississippi, but I believe that William joined the Civil War effort (Confederate, of course) back in his home state of Jefferson Co., as well as his oldest brotherkl Benjamin Gunnells Johnson, and I believe they both served in the 18th Alabama Infantry. I know that Benjamin was in that outfit, and I certainly think that William might have joined the same one. I'm wondering if he was killed or whether he just remained in Jefferson after the War ended. Anybody know anything about him? Thanks for your help.
