Looking for links/information on the 3rd Cavalry. This is the information I have along with questions.2nd great Grandfather Henry Clay Hardin
Henry was originally from Walker County, Georgia and a veteran of the Civil War. His farm in Georgia was near the site where the Battle of
Chickamauga was fought.”His pension was first granted in Dawson, DeKalb County Alabama in 1907 and transferred to Garland County Arkansas in 1919. It states Henry Clay Hardin enlisted 8 October 1861 in Leabanon, Alabama in Company A 3rd Alabama Cavarly and was discharged 10 May 1865. I have seen it both ways 3rd Alabama Cavalry and just 3rd Cavalry. I think they are diffrent but not sure? Why would someone living in Georgia enlist in a unit from Alabama? Are Dawson and Leabanon in Alabama as I think there may be a DeKalb County also in Georgia? Any help would be great!!
