Officers and men enlisted for three years or the war, so there were no reenlistments. Just to be clear, there was no Bessemer or Birmingham in Jefferson County during the Civil War. Elyton and Jonesboro were two of the only towns in the county, travellers comparing Elyton to Sleepy Hollow.

Also called the “Yancey Guards”, members of the "Yancey Rangers" organized at Jonesboro, Ala., July 6, 1861. Receiving orders on July 29, 1861, to report to Camp Johnston, Ala., they departed on Aug. 19, 1861. Officers and men mustered in Confederate service on Aug. 31, 1861.
