Most people would recognize this unit as the 5th Alabama Cavalry. The 22nd Alabama Cavalry Battn. organized on Nov. 1, 1862. It officially became the 5th Alabama Cavalry on Feb. 15, 1863. No companies were added to the battalion, as it had organized (strangely enough) with ten companies.
