Pete,

More to come.

Of fourty-four officers and men on roll, four later joined the 1st Alabama (U.S.) Cavalry. These are Isaac Williams, Walter Shelton and Columbus C. Funderburk of Houston, Memory Walker of Clear Creek,

Nine others cannot be identified on miltary rolls, including Gilbert L. Brown, a minster from Hamners, Mathew R. Kimsey, a teacher from Houston, and Joseph McClure, age 40, also from Houston.

The rest appear to be on Confederate rolls. Seven of those who entered Confederate service can be found on rolls of Co. "C", 9th Alabama Regiment.

  • Sgt. Henry H. Bibb, student, age 20, Houston.
  • Pvt. M. C. Castleberry, farmer, age 35, Houston.
  • Pvt. Nicholas Eddy, farmer, age 27, Houston.
  • Pvt. Nathaniel S. Hill, farmer, age 35, Clear Creek.
  • Pvt. Milton P. Mauldin, farmer, age 35, Houston.
  • Pvt. William Montgomery, farmer, age 21, Houston.
  • Pvt. Edward Williams, farmer, age 25, Seraloo.

Castleberry and Montgomery were killed in action. The historical roll of Co. "C", 9th Alabama Regiment at the ADAH includes a number of men who gave their residence as Houston (Winston County AL).
