My William M. Stanfield would have been 31 in 1862, and was 33 when conscripted in Dadeville, Tallapoosa Co. in 1864. This particular CSR is not found in either the national archives or the Alabama Dept. of Archives and History. It was found in the early 1980's in the Birmingham Public Library on a roll of microfilm marked "Misscellaneous Alabama Confederate Units". He was enlisted in June, 1864 and attached to the hospital in Notasulga in July, 1864. "Enlisted by whom-Capt. Brown; Period-War; How assigned-Nurse; Present or Absent-Present; Last Paid-Never Paid". As a side note, I also have copies of the hopital returns for 1864 showing him on the staff there. These were obtained from the Samuel H. Stout collection at the University of Texas, Autsin.
