I was unable to find a James Whited in Tennessee and this was the only John.

John Whited enlisted as a Private in Company E*, 28th Consolidated Tennessee Infantry November 8, 1862 at Chestnut Mound**, Tennessee by Colonel Stanton for 3 years, paroled at Greensboro, N. C., May 1, 1865, Company G, 1st Consolidated Regiment Tennessee Volunteers, 2nd Corporal

* This company was formed by the consolidation of Companies A and G, 84th Tennessee Infantry. The 28th Regiment Tennessee Infantry (Consolidated) was formed March 8, 1863, by the consolidation of the 28th and the 84th Regiments Tennessee Infantry. About April 9, 1865, the 1st, 6th, 8th, 9th, 16th, 27th, 28th and 34th Regiments Tennessee Infantry and the 24th Battalion Tennessee Sharp Shooters were consolidated and formed the 1st Confederate Regiment Tennessee, which was paroled at Greensboro, N. ** Companies B, E, & G, 28th Tennessee, were raised with men from Jackson County, Tennessee. Chestnut Mound is located in Jackson County
