There are no post July 4, 1863 muster rolls extant for the 55th Alabama, hence we cannot ascertain from these records his status after his hospital record of August 3, 1863. I do not find any register of patients at the Lauderdale Springs General Hospital at the National Archives or other holdings.

Perry Grubbs enlisted as a Private in Company F, Snodgrass' Regiment Alabama Volunteer*, October 30. 1861 at Camp Cheatham by Col. Quarles for 1 year, absent in hospital June 30, 1863

The second & only remaining card in his file is for Perry Edmund Grubbs, Private, Company F, 56th Regiment Alabama in which he appears on a Hospital Muster Roll, Loring's Division Hospital, Lauderdale, Miss. dated September 1, 1863 in which it is reported, he enlisted October 31, 1861 at Camp Cheatham by Col. Quarles for 3 years, attached to hospital as a Patient August 3, 1863, no further records

* This company subsequently became Company F 55th Regiment Alabama Volunteers

Perry Grubbs enlisted as a Private in (1st) Company E, 42nd Tennessee Infantry*, October 1, 1861 at Camp Cheatham by W. A.Quarles for one year, no further records

* This company subsequently became Company F, 55th Regiment Alabama Infantry.

The 42nd Regiment Tennessee Infantry was organized November 28,1861, with five Tennessee companies and five Alabama companies. It was surrendered at Fort Donelson, February 16, 1862; released at Vicksburg, Miss., September 20,1862; re-orgaized September 29, 1862. At the re-organization in September, 1862, the five Alabama companies were separated from this organization and formed the 6th (Norwood's) Battalion Alabama Regiment Alabama Infantry, which subsequently became a part of the 55th Regiment Alabama Infantry.
