His brother, Henry Banes, was also enlisted in Company G, 5th Alabama Infantry Regiment. He was seriously wounded twice during the war (Malvern Hill & Fredericksburg), but appears to have survived. He is listed as having received a "gun shot wound in right lumbar region, ball remaining in cavity."
As to John Banes, he was not a member of the 5th Alabama Infantry Regiment. Consequently, I can offer no information on him.
