Re: Prattville Dragoons?

David,

There are no weapons, accoutrements or uniforms attributed to the Prattville Dragoons at the ADAH. One of the most knowledgable people when it come to the Prattville Dragoons, their uniforms and history is Mike Bailey who works at Ft. Morgan. You might want to contact him for additional information. The early uniforms of the Prattville Dragoons simply wore out or were relpaced. From that point they would not have worn a distinct uniform but would have pretty much worn the same uniforms as the others in their regiment. These for the most part were purchased through the depot (not arsenal) system once it was up and running. The average soldier would go through many uniforms if he served from 61-65. Different items wore out at different rates (pants quicker than jackets) and were replaced. "Confederate Gray" varied greatly. Colors and shades differed from batch to batch even within the same issue and they would fade quickly according to the quality of dyes etc. So, other than their early distinct uniform there simply was no " uniform of the Prattville Dragoons."
