This is the same info I responded to you via email. I'm responding here incase, someday, someone searches the archives for this same soldier.

Thomas Carter, 1860, age 22, Overseer in household of W.J. Smith, Prattville Beat. Thomas Carter, age 22, mustered-in May 2, 1861, enrolled May 3, 1861, at Pensacola, Fla., into J.J. Cox's Independent Cavalry Company, The Prattville Dragoons, attached to the 7th Alabama Infantry Regiment Company I. Later reorganized as Company H 3rd Alabama Cavalry Regiment. Promoted to Corporal Oct. 31, 1862. Promoted to 3rd Sgt. June 18, 1863. Paroled Jiune 1865 by US Provost Matshal Major Ross Wilkerson.

Carter's physical description June 14, 1865 oath of allegience, US Provost Marshal, Montgomery, AL:

Height 6 feet, Hair dark, Eyes blue, Complexion light
