Mike already posted this: "Mathias Banes of Company G, 5th Alabama Infantry Regiment, was mortally wounded at the Battle of Malvern Hill on July 1, 1862. He died in Richmond, Virginia, on July 4, 1862. "
This is a separate person from MY ANCESTOR MATTHEW R BAYNES. My Matthew is also listed in the same company as Richmond B Baines, and I did not know that Richmond died which explains why we can't find him after that. He probably went from the 1st AL to the 37th MS. My ancestor resided in Desoto, Clarke county, MS until after 1920 and filed for pension at least three different times while living there. When I have searched for the various spellings of Baynes I can usually rule out some Barnes because they can be found elsewhere as Barnes.
I thank you for the information on Simeon, William, and Richmond, but I'm searching for Matthew now, not Mathias, and Matthew is also found as M R, and Matt with the various Baynes spellings.
