I am trying to find out what would have been the reason for my ggg grandfather's discharge from the 18th Alabama Volunteers, Co F. I have a copy of his discharge papers. He enlisted in 1861 and was discharge bc of a disabilty in October 1862. I also have his muster roll papers and they indicate he was sick for months. He was 23 when he enlisted, married - had 8 children and died at the age of 64. No one to ask in our family now. He was a first cousin of Governor Thomas Watts. I am just hoping to find in general what some causes of discharge for disability would have been. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
