Re: Galvanized Yankees From Alabama

Harlan-
I wanted to alert you to two things. In your research please be certain to consult Barron B. Beshoar's book (1973) "Hippocrates in a Red Vest" about the doctor (Beshoar's ancestor) who treated the survivors of the Elm Creek attack. It may be safest to say the attackers were unknown (since we do not know!), but do not dismiss the Pawnees : Beshoar makes good arguments for not believing they were Sioux or Cheyenne. The second thing is, that if you plan to do any physical prospecting for the graves ("probing", "testing", etc., etc.) you would be in violation of Nebraska's "Unmarked Human Burial Site and Skeletal Remains Protection Act of 1989" (Neb. Rev. Stat. ยงยง 12-1201 through 12-1212). Call Jon Bruning's office.
