I suspect that his widow did file a claim for his effects. This I base on the fact that Sterling's widow filed a claim for her husband. I'm sure these ladies were in contact.

It is most likely the case that her papers were lost and not recovered for incorporation in these records. These records may have been filed very late in the war and lost in the destruction of Richmond at the end. He should have had just under two months pay, say $20.00, most likely a bounty of $50, commutation for clothing and rations, less stoppage of pay for the clothing he drew on June 15.
