Ancestry.com just posted Alabama Civil War Muster Records. Brooking, who we both thought was a conscript, is not listed as one. I don't know if it is correct or not, because he is in a unit from a county different from where he lived. HIs first name is not even given, but there is enlistment date of 1 Dec, 1862. In one column, conscripts are noted. So this is very interesting. If he served for two years, it seems he was bound to have been in a battle or two. If you have ancestry, could I prevail upon you to take a look and see if I am interpreting correctly? There is also a list of battles the unit was in, but it's too hard for me to read.
