My great, great grandfather Stephen Peak enlisted may 1862 in the 42nd Alabama Infantry company K. He was from Marion county, Alabama. My problem is this: No where can I find him on a muster roll. The only record that shows this is a Prisoner of War record. He died in a hospital in Iuka, Mississippi. Why does he not show up on the muster rolls? Any help on this would be great. Thanks.
