Does anyone have any information about Silas Morphew's role in the Free State of Winston? While doing some genealogy research for my wife, I discovered his birth/death dates, etc. and some mention that he was involved in attempts to organize a "Union" militia in Winston County. He was born in 1827 and I see no NARA military record. Six of his brothers served in Arkansas. My wife does not read this message board, so go ahead and give me all the sordid details.
