Apparently not anything recognized by the Confederate government. He appears to be an older man from Carroll County GA, age 43 in 1860. This means he would have become eligible for senior reserve service under the law of Feb. 16, 1864.

A man age 46 listed as "H" Buttram appears on the January 1864 register of men eligible for militia service, 37th Senatorial District, 1152nd Militia District, Carroll County GA. This is Harmon Buttram of Kansas, GA, perhaps a familiy member. No other Buttrams listed in Carroll County.
