The Capps information found on the Southern Messenger website is incorrect.

Capps, Spencer W. 2ndlt............... Co.H.and Co.B, 60th Ala.
Capps, Thomas A. Pvt................... Comp H.and Co.B, 60th Ala.
Capps, William John Wesley, Pvt................. Co.H, 60th Ala.
Capps, William Humphrey 2ndlt................. CoB, 60th Ala.

Thomas A., William J. and Spencer W. Capps are found on page 11 of the 1860 census of Butler County, Ala., post office Rainerville. All three joined a company organized at Rainerville on Apr. 5, 1862, later assigned to the 1st Battalion, Hilliard's Alabama Legion as Co. "B". At the end of 1863 Hilliard's Legion was dissolved and this company reassigned to the 60th Alabama Regiment as Co. "H". Thomas A. and William H. Capps died during Sept.-Oct. 1862, long before the 60th Alabama Regiment ever organized. Spencer W. Capps served as 2nd Lieutenant in both companies - Co. "B", 1st Battalion, Hilliard's Alabama Legion, and Co. "H", 60th Alabama Regiment.

There is absolutely no record of a man named William H. Capps in either company.
