Do you know what county he lived in during the 1860 Census? That won't settle it for sure but it would help. Have you looked for a pension record? (I think Mr. Pitts can help with that.) The T.E.L. Howell that was in Co. A, 1st Alabama Infantry was listed as having been captured at Port Hudson when it surrendered on July 9, 1863. His service record does not indicate that he died there, although it is possible that he died in the post hospital after the surrender or even at home sometime later. If you are not sure what county he enlisted from I wouldn't dismiss this man just yet. Also, it is hard to believe a body of a Confederate KIA would have or could have been retrieved from Port Hudson and brought to Tallapoosa County, Alabama and buried at County Line Cemetery. Ezra Church I could accept but Port Hudson would have been difficult. I.E. The actual grave maybe somewhere else.
