Yes, there were two 1st Alabama Cavalry Regiments; one Confederate and one Union. The 1st Alabama Cavalry, C.S.A., was organized in Montgomery in 1861 and served in the Western Theater of the the war (Army of Tennessee). It surrendered at Bentonville, NC in May of 1865. The 1st Alabama Cavalry, U.S.A., was organized in North Alabama in 1863 and was made up of men who were loyal to the Union. It also served in the Western Theater.
