The reported death date matches what his widow's report and Ancestry records. It just seemed a little late to be running an obit a couple years after the fact. However, the old papers did that from time to time. It was probably 1906 after all. Recommend examining his Mexican War records. Yep, he was probably too young for the Indian Wars, so my guess the obit referred to his Civil War service.
