I just read his Calvert's claim (3117) and here is a quick synopsis. Calvert claimed that during Wilson's raid in Mar and Apr 1865, Croxton took from him a mare, corn, cornmeal, and bacon in the amount of $375. Calvert claimed he was always loyal to the Union and was elected Justice of the Peace in 1862 by Union men who, in Winston County by that time, were the overwhelming majority. The Southern Claims Commission ruled that even though the county was probably majority Union in 1862, "the acceptance of this office and the exercise of its functions under Confederate authority, after having been duly qualified, are inconsistent with adherence to the Union cause." Calvert's claim was disallowed ultimately because taking an oath of office as Justice of the Peace in 1862 which included taking an oath to support and uphold the Confederacy. One of his attorneys in the case was C.C. Sheats. Hope this helps answer your questions about Mr. Calvert.
