Re: Cpl. W.H. Burdett, Clanton's Brigade

Besides Woodall's bridge on April 7, Clanton reported being shelled at Whitesburg on April 5 and a skirmish at Decatur on April 9 where he drove in the pickets. He may have participated in the skirmish on April 16 at Decatur as well. Just before his move to the Tennessee, Pillow reported that Clanton had 16 companies (Clanton indicated 500 men), and Clanton directed the detached companies of the 8th to report to Montevallo until his return. Osterhaus reported Clanton with a brigade that included an unnamed battalion of cavalry. Although not conclusive, perhaps some companies of the 8th participated in these actions.

Both Clanton and Rousseau reported an engagement at Loachapoka on July 18. Don't know whether the time of day this occurred was before, during, or after Chehaw.

Hope your travels go well.
