The Forty-eighth Alabama Infantry Regiment, C.S.A., 1862-65
The book follows the officers and men of the 48th Alabama Infantry Regiment during its service in the Confederate Army from its conception in April 1862 until its surrender at Appomattox Court House in April 1865. It details the marches, lifestyle, and combat experiences of the soldiers. It examines the tactical decisions made by the regiment’s commanding officers during select battles in which it was engaged in order to reconsider the reputation of the regiment. Further, it examines the cultural history of the men, and also the political history of northeast Alabama, in attempt to clarify their motivations to fight for the Confederate cause.
Many previously unpublished primary sources (such as letters and manuscripts) and also many traditional Civil War military standards were used to create a colorful narrative of a traditionally obscure regiment. Original artwork included depicting scenes described by soldiers in letters are also included within the book. For genealogists, I have included over twenty pages of burial sites of the soldiers. I will sign each copy.
Hardcover, 280 pages, with many photographs of the soldiers.
