James McDaniel, Private, (Old) Company E, 1st Regiment Alabama Infantry*, enlisted February 28, 1861 at Union Springs, Alabama by Lt. Jackson for 12 months, recorded as sick in quarters August 31, 1861, discharged October 14, 1861 near Pensacola, Florida, final payment October 21, no further records [Note: I would suspect that he was discharged on medical grounds]

* This regiment was originally called into the service of the State by the Governor of Alabama Infantry; re-organized March 5, 1862 at For Barrancas, Florida as 1st Regiment Alabama Artillery, and again re-organized April __, 1862, at Memphis, Tenn., as 1st Regiment Alabama Infantry.

This company subsequently became (New) Company E, 1st Regiment Alabama Infantry
