Rutgers University Special Collections and Archives has a medical certificate and furlough dated 3 December 1861 for A. F. Blair. It states, "I certify that I have carefully examined A. F. Blair of Col. Davis Battalion and he is unfit for military duty, because of the mumps, and he will not be able to discharge the duties of a soldier in a less period of 6 days. Dated at Huntsville ... N. D. [A. D.?] Richardson, Surgeon, Ind Ba Ala Vols." and endorsed "A furlough is hereby granted to Private A. F. Blair of Co. B for the space of ten days. Huntsville Ala Nich Davis, Lt Col Ala.
