On August 8, 1864, Capt. Thomas R. Stacey organized a company of militia (2nd class?) in Montgomery County AL. I don't see this name Griffin on roll. The distinction between 1st and 2nd class militia is important because 2nd class militia could be assigned to service anywhere in the state, 1st class militia being "County Reserves" not expected to serve outside county limits.

As a militia company, Capt Stacey would not have been acting under orders of a Confederate commander like General Clanton. However, Stacey served in the AVC company organized by James H. Clanton before the war known as the "Montgomery Mounted Rifles." They were almost certainly acquainted with one another. ADAH has an image of Thomas R. Stacey in his regulation AVC cavalry uniform.
