Thomas R. Stacey served tweleve months as a member of the "Montgomery Mounted Rifles", which became Co. "K", 1st Alabama Cavalry Regiment. The ADAH has an image of Stacey in the AVC uniform of the "Montgomery Mounted Rifles."

After resigning his commission, Stacey was elected captain of one of the newly-organized militia companies from Montgomery County AL, Aug. 8, 1864.
