May 13 to June 30, 1861, stationed at Farr X Roads, Fairfax County, Virginia

Left Pikeville, Ala _____ May, reached Montgomery 5th May. Left Montgomery _______, reached Pensacola 13th May. Mustered into service ________ & reached Richmond, Virginia 9 June. Left Richmond 18th June reached Manassas Junction 19th June & marched same day 6 miles to Camp at Bull Run 22nd June & marched _____ miles during the night to Farr X Roads, Fairfax County, Virginia where we are now in camp.

July & August, 1861, stationed at Sangston's X Roads, Camp Masked Battery

17 July had a skirmish between the 5 Ala Regt. and a considerable force of the Enemy in which both the Regiment & Brigade pickets were engaged. ?Lt. T. W. Riley(?,?) commanding the Regimental pickets. 1st Lt. W. Kilpatric, Co. D. comd Brigade pickets was attacked about seven o'clock P. M. Fired several volleys after which we retired to regiment in good order. Six privates of Co. D were engaged. After our arrival to the Regt. finding it under retiring orders, took our respective posts, retired to Union Mills, distance 7 miles. 18 july formed line of battle on South side of Bull Run near Union Mills. Regmt deployed for some distance close of _______ . _______ standing by arms _______ in hearing of cannons & Co. remained at? this position until the following Sunday. 21st June? Battle of Manassas. Stood by ________ until 1 P. M. when our Brigade was ordered to attack the Enemy's flank on his left. While executing this order instructions were reced to report to Stone Bridge, which point was reached just as the enemy comed [commenced ?] his retreat. We then marched back to our old position walking in all a distance of about 20 miles. Aug 22 - Left Camp at Union Mills for our former [?]camp Masked Battery.
