Spent Their Golden Wedding Alone

Meridian News - 1905
**************
I am a Confederate veteran born in De Kalb County, Georgia, Dec. 23, 1835. My father moved to Randolph County, Alabama before I can remember on Talapoosa River. I married Miss. M.E. Hood, who was born in Newton County, Georgia. We were married Jan. 4, 1855. We spent the fiftieth anniversary of our wedding at home alone.
I enlisted in the Thirteenth Alabama Regiment in 1861, left wife and three children to do the best they could; was gone four years; was in the Virginia Army, Company E, Thirteenth Alabama, Colquitt's Brigade, De Witt's Division; returned home after two years' imprisonment at Fort Delaware to 1865; came to Texas the same year. I hope if any of my regiment reads this they will write me at Meridian Texas. I have been a subscriber to the News about four years-like it fine.
