thank you Mark for your reply and offer to help. My Wm. A. Ellis died at Petersberg, VA, and most probably buried there. I've done some reading on the large cemetery there and many,many names were not known nor recorded, but over 20,000 CSA troops fell from battle and buried in battlefield trenches. Later, they reinterred many but not near all. I placed a memorial for him on Findagrave in that cemetery and if better information comes along, I'll change. But I think that is where he is, or maybe on the battlefield. At least he's memorialized. His father was Jeremiah Ellis; and he did live in Fayette Co. AL, so thanks.
