Maybe this button belonged to one of Napoleon's former officer's. A group of them settled in Alabama in 1817, on land sold to them by Congress. They called it Marengo, and founded the town of Demopolis. It was called The Vine and Olive Colony.
Of course Irondale, is quite a distance from Demopolis, its just a theory?
