The Alabama in the Civil War Message Board

Alan,

I'm doing some research on the Campaign and Battle of Tupelo/Harrisburg and a google search led me to one of your old posts on history-sites.com. At the end of the particular post you listed two sources;

James B. Irvine's diary has been catalogued by the ADAH as SPR323; Washington P. Nance's diary is registered as SPR429. Nance appears in National Archives records as a member of Co. "I", 11th Alabama Cavalry; Irvine is found as 1st Sgt. of Co. "F", Roddey's 4th Alabama Cavalry. During much as 1864 he served as inspector-general on the staff of Col. Johnson's cavalry brigade.

I am very interested! I only have a few letters from a pair of soldiers in the 4th Alabama, but no diaries and nothing at all from men from the 11th Alabama. I did find the Nance diary listed at worldcat.org and he is suuposed to have entries concerning Tupelo/Harrisburg.

Do you know where these diaries are held? Do you have copies? I am interested in the entries for the months of June and July, 1864.

All the best,

Tom
