Re: Alabama at Pensacola, January 1861

Well, yes, Perry's papers must be somewhere. That's the thing. One must go on a treasure hunt to locate them. I would think they'd be in Tallahassee but I have found a lot of stuff that should be in the archives for the state of Florida reside in another states archives. I found the wonderful set of bound tomes of the Florida Territorial Papers in Montgomery!! There's probably a set in Tally town but I don't know. I'd bet Dean DeBolt at University of West Florida has a better chance of having them then Tally. UWF has a great search engine and one can access the list of holdings. Some of the territorial papers are in Pensacola, others in St Augustine. West and East Florida did not always meet in the middle.
Most of us were very surprised when they made the access to the pensions easy. I'd just spent the money to get one from the Fl Archives and the next month, they were all out there on the web!! Grrr-----
I guess searching the archive site or even contacting them may lead us to something on the early years of the war but I won't hold my breath. I've found more in the OR's than I ever did from the archives. Sad, but true. They have to be somewhere, just do not know where.
