These are records compiled by Alabama company commanders at the end of 1864. Col. Fowler returned to Montgomery without records of the 5th Alabama Regiment. The adjutant's note says that regimental records were lost during the Shenandoah Valley campaign and therefore impossible to compile as directed. The same is true of other regiments belonging to Battle's Brigade.
