The Alabama in the Civil War Message Board

James M. Cox

I have been seeking information about the possible confederate service of my GGUncle, James Marion Cox, b. 1837 in Alabama and believed to be living with his parents in Arkansas in 1853 when a younger brother was born in Arkansas. James Monroe is listed with the George A. Cox family in the 1850 census in Water Valley, Mississippi; but is missing from the family in the 1860 census in Pickens County, Alabama. It is possible he stayed in Arkansas when the family moved back to Alabama in 1855.

I recently found the following and was wondering if anyone could confirm if the James M. Cox, in the 33rd Arkansas Infantry, Co E could be him? Soldier's Rank_In Corporal; Soldier's Rank_Out Sergeant: Film Number M376 roll 6

Thanks, ROB
