William and Elizabeth Bobo and family lived in Alabama, near the Georgia line, when William and at least one son enlisted. Elizabeth's family had extensive roots in the Athens-Laurenceville, Georgia area, so it is likely that she took the remaining children to live near her parents, Solomon and Nancy Chandler. The Chandlers were members of the Crooked Creek Baptist Church north of Athens (They are buried at the church cemetery according to several accounts I read).
After William was critically wounded in the Battle of Chickamauga, it is said that he returned home, where he eventually died. One account reported that this home was in Gwinnett, Calhoun County, Alabama; however, there is no town called Gwinnett in Alabama. There is a Gwinnett, Georgia, near the home of Elizabeth's parents and the Crooked Creek church where William and Elizabeth were married in 1838.
I suspect that William did not return home to Alabama (since nobody was living there at the time), but instead returned to his wife's family home in Georgia. If my hunch proves correct, William may be buried at the cemetery next to the Crooked Creek Baptist Church a few miles north of Athens just off Jefferson River Road.
Unfortunately, I live in the Seattle area, so a trip to the Atlanta area to verify my hunch won't happen soon.
