Members of the original 1st Alabama Regiment enlisted for twelve months service. The new 1st Alabama Regiment consited of officers and men who reenlisted for three years and new recruits. Both John J. and William D. McDaniel enrolled as new recruits in February of 1862. WDM enlisted in new Co. "F" and survived the war, being paroled with survivors in consolidated Co. "A'. A pension application in his name was filed in the State of Texas. JJM enlisted in new Co. "F" and died sometime during 1864. His widow applied for a pension from Crenshaw County AL.

Also in new Co. "F" we have Yancey H. McDaniel, and in old Co. "E" a man named James McDaniel is on roll with Elijah McDaniel. Since both Yancey and James lived in the same area as the others they may all be related.
