Alan, where do you obtain your information? I find differing material at Footnote. I am unable to locate any other information on regimental personnel.

William D. McDaniel, Private, (Old & New) Company E, 1st Alabama Infantry, enlisted February 24, 1862 at Brundridge by Capt. [Jno. H.] Wood for 3 years, on detached service with Genl Villipique during the period July 31 to October 31, 1862, captured at Port Hudson, Louisiana July 9, 1863, paroled July 12-13, 1863, present on the company muster roll dated December 31, 1863, and present on a roll dated April 17, 1864 at Fort Earmes[?], Alabama, died* n,d., n.p., no further records

The two cards noting his death refer only to his effects and are listed under the name W. B. McDaniel, Co. E

Shown as in Company E, William D. G. McDanie, at: http://www.southern-style.com/Southeast%20Alabama%20Heritage%20Association/1st_alabama_infantry.htm
