Notes for William D. McDaniel show that a claim was filed for his death during 1864. Since he was present on roll at Fort Gaines AL, Apr. 17, 1864, and claims took some time to file and process, WDM must have died during the summer months while his regiment was engaged in the Atlanta Campaign.
