OBITUARY OF JEREMY J. BROWN
On January 27, 1914 Rev. J. J. Brown of Henegar was called to rest after an illness of 17 days. He was born October 8th, 1844, was converted at the age of 18 years, entered the gospel ministry at the age of 20. He served as a faithful soldier during the Civil War.
During a long and successful period of gospel ministry in the Congregational Church he organized a number of churches which still stand as a monument to him for his faithful servece to God. During this time he led hundreds to Christ and Baptised many into the church.
Brother Brown raised a family of eleven children, lived to see them all members of the Church and good and upright citizens. As a Bible scholar he had but a few equals in this country in his profound understanding of the Word. He was widely known and greatly loved by all who knew him well. Was always ready to help in time of need. Being so devoted to his Church no sacrifice was too great for him to make for its advancement.
He was also a member of the Masonic order for forty years and was ever faithful and true to his fraternal obligations.
Brother Brown will be geatly missed not only by his own family but by all the community and the church to which he belonged. While relatives mourn his death, we also as friends are much grieved over the loss we has sustained. Besides his children, he leaves a devoted and faithful Christain wife who for all these years has nobly stood by his side and shared with him the many sacrifices and also the joys found in a life of faithful obedience to God. We extend to her our heartfelt sympathy. May all the relatives and friends strive to emulate the beautiful example of Christian devotion that he leaves.
Not for the dead in Christ we weep,
Their sorrows now are o'er
The sea is calm, the tempest past
On that eternal shore.
Their peace is sealed, their rest is sure
Within that better home;
Awhile we weep and linger here.
Then follow to the tomb.
