The Alabama in the Civil War Message Board

Re: John Harlow, 22nd AL Infantry

Barry, thanks for your reply. I found the 4th Cavalry John Harlow some time ago, he's not my guy. I have noticed that when doing searches on Ancestry.com, the search engine returns the name Harrell, as well as some others, when I search Harlow. Also, 3 of my Maloney ancestors had 2 sets of cards, one under the name Mallory and one with the correct spelling. I looked up John Harrell on Soldiers and Sailors last night and there he is. John Harrell, Co. I, 22nd Ala. Infantry. I'm betting that this is my guy. I'm hoping that I can find some other document that will back this up. But, the version of the story on the pension application matches what my grandmother told me about her granddad, and she new him well, he died the year that my father was born. One of the witness affidavits was signed by a Joseph Griffin, I found his records with the 22nd. What I'm hoping to find is a record from his time in service, maybe from where he was sent to the hospital in Columbus or from his capture there. Maybe someone on this board has some idea where to look for those. At any rate, I'm headed to the GA state archives in a few weeks, and a search for records from the Columbus hospital just got put on the list of research items.
