Re: Pioneer Corps

Thank you so much for your reply. His name was Robert Chaney and the records I found for him on Footnote are very confusing. He enlisted in the CSA in Walker Co. Alabama in Feb. 1862, Capt. Gamble's Co., Frazer's Regiment, Alabama Volunteers. This Co. became Co. F, 28th Regiment, Ala. infantry. In June 1862 he was transferred to the Pioneer Corps. In Oct. & Nov. 1862 he's absent without leave, but he also appears on a list of Rebel Prisoners of War paroled by the 1st Div., 14th Army Corps, Dept. of the Cumberland, Gallatin, Tenn., Nov. 18, 1862, place & date, Woodland Kentucky, Sept. 22, 1862. I have no idea what all of that means and I can't find a Woodland Ky. so I have no idea where that was.
In Oct 1863 he was assigned to 9th Ala. Regiment, Co. B, Dept. & Army-No. NA--Lee. In Nov. & Dec. 1863, he's on the muster roll and listed as transferred by general order ?? VA. Dec. 1863 he's on duty with Co. B 9th Ala. Reg., Dept & Army--No. VA--Lee. He was paid for Nov. 1-Dec. 31 1863. Then, Co. F 28th Reg. Ala. Infantry has him regained from desertion, Jan. 7, 1864, but in Jan. & Feb 1864, he's also on the muster roll of Co. B, 9th Reg. Ala. Infantry, transferred. The last document I have is from April 1864, where he's on a receipt roll of clothing, Co. F., 28th Reg., Ala. Infantry.
I really can't make any sense of any of it!
Thank you again,
Linda
