In Response To: Co. K, 22nd Alabama Infantry ()

Bob --

Unfortunately rolls of the 22nd Alabama Regiment are not available through the National Archives. Based on other records available, we know that this company organized at Notasulga AL, Oct. 6, 1861.

ADAH has little on its website. However, ADAH does has a descriptive roll of original company members which contains a wealth of detail; ages, occupations, birthplaces and other data. All except Renfro appear to have lived in and around Ramah. Renfro was a teacher from Calhoun County AL.

  • Captain Benjamin R. Hart

  • 1st Lieut. Hugh W. Henry

  • 2nd Lieut. Richard L. Myrick

  • 2nd Lieut. Alfred B. Renfro
  • 1st Sergt. James H. Wall

  • 2nd Sergt. William R. A. Yarborough

  • 3rd Sergt. Jesse T. Cone

  • 4th Sergt. Robert S. Hart

  • 5th Sergt. John O. Leonard
  • 1st Corpl. Joseph H. Sherrer

  • 2nd Corpl. Frank M. Greene

  • 3rd Corpl. Jasper G. McClendon

  • 4th Corpl. Stephen A. Pilley

Captain Hart was wounded at Shiloh; Lieutenant Myrick, a physician, was wounded at died at Monterrey TN, April 13, 1862. Corporals Sherrer and Greene were killed at Shiloh. McClendon was wounded and captured; Pilley, a young Methodist minsiter, was captured in the same battle.
