Widows Pension

All this time I have believed that GG-grandma Adaline Frith died in 1900. Using the headstone as my source. Now I find she was receiving a Widows Pension up to 1904. 1902 - $18.60, 1903 - $21.65, 1904 - $22.65. Receiving the pension was always signed by someone else as I have reason to believe that GG-grandma did not read or write.

Alabama did not start keeping birth and death records til 1908 so I can't go that route. Is this one of those places you just have to accept what you have or is there another place to look?

Also, was this pension paid once a year or more often? Each of the records I find is dated in November.
