Re: Benjamin Wilson-AL Civil War Soldier

Could this Artificer be your man?

Benjamin E. Wilson, Artificer, Captain Homer's Company, Alabama State Artillery,* enlisted May 4, 1861 at Pensacola by Capt. J. H. Forney for 12 months, later recorded in Company K, Artillery, 5th Regiment Alabama Volunteers,** recorded on August 6, 1861 as "On extra duty in making and repairing harness, saddles & working on Gun Carriages, Caisons and doing Carpenter and Smith's work in the company," recorded on August 6, 1861 as "On furlough to visit Mobile until 5th August and as escort to Sergt. Nelmes corpse," discharged July 22, 1862 by reason of the Conscript Act***

* & ** This company subsequently became Company A, Alabama State Artillery

*** He was then, most likely over the conscript age of 35

The 1860 Federal census has a Benj Wilson, age 33, Mobile Post Office, married to Ann Wilson, age 31, children: Hanna 7; Robert 6; Ellen 3; and Cordeel 1.

That's as far as I can search in Ancestry.com

Benjamin E. Wilson, Company D, 17th Alabama Infantry, enlisted September 17, 1861 at Montgomery by Capt. Wagner for the duration of the war, last recorded present on the company muster roll for the period Nov. & Dec., 1862, there are no further muster reports for the company, as such, we are unaware of his later service
